“God, unto whom all hearts be open, and with whom all will speaketh, and unto whom no privy thing is hid, I beseech Thee so far to cleanse the intent of mine heart with the unspeakable gift of Thy grace, that I may perfectly love Thee, and worthily praise Thee. Amen.”
From the “The Cloud of Unknowing” used by Christians for 1200 years, and has been traced back to Alcuin, who died in 804. Whether he composed it, however, or took it from some earlier service book is not known.
