9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Any one, therefore, troubled by the seeming unreality of God may well imitate the Psalmist who begins his psalm by saying, “I will cry unto god,” and who in the sixth verse says, “I will commune with mine own heart’ (Psalm 77). the two verses are not in conflict. The only way any one can commune with God is through his own heart.
